Arrival time – in order to lower stress and improve the return on your investment we advise that you arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of your child/children’s swimming lesson. This will give you enough time to get them changed and use the toilet before their lesson starts and reduces disruptions during the lesson.
Parental responsibilities – Neil Bailey Swimming teachers and staff are only responsible for the care of your child during their swimming lesson, whilst changing before and after their swimming lessons they should be supervised by a parent/guardian. If you leave the venue during your child’s swimming lesson we ask that you please return 5 minutes before the end of the lesson so you are able to collect your child once their lesson is finished.
Any accompanying children who are not swimming should be supervised and controlled at all times.
In order to reduce the distractions for swimmers and teachers during the lesson we ask that any communication is directed to the lead teacher poolside.
Change over periods are very busy with the transition between lessons, please make sure that you move quickly into the changing rooms rather than crowding the poolside to allow the next group of swimmers to safely make their way to the their class.
Changing Rooms – all changing before and after swimming should be carried out in the changing rooms. No pushchairs are allowed in the changing rooms.
Please take note of the guidelines below, taken from the NSPCC CPSU (Child Protection in Sport Unit):
- If you are a male bringing a girl aged under eight swimming, please take her to change in the boys changing room.
- If you are a female bringing a boy aged under eight swimming please take him to change in the girls changing room.
- If your child is over eight they can change in the changing room of their own gender to change themselves.
According to the NSPCC CPSU:
‘There’s no set legal limit but standard accepted practise sets an age limit of under 8 to be in a changing room of the opposite gender.’
Please note that our changing rooms are group changing areas and are unsupervised, if you have any concerns about these guidelines please speak to the lead teacher poolside.
Eating before your child’s swimming lesson – Swimming like any other physical activity can be uncomfortable with a full stomach, we advise that no large meals are consumed at least 1 hour before your child’s swimming lesson. In the early stages of learning to swim large amounts of air and water can be swallowed which can result in the child being sick. Our intensive lessons require lots of energy and physical hard work and this can sometimes cause children’s bodies to reject the last thing they may have eaten – to reduce the risk of this happening we suggest a small, easily digestible snack 1 hour before their lesson. After swimming your child will need to rehydrate and refuel so we suggest bringing a water bottle and snack for the journey home.
Food and Drink at the swimming pool– no food or hot drinks should be consumed in the changing rooms or on poolside.
Lost property – Neil Bailey Swimming cannot accept any responsibility for the loss or damage to clothing or personal items at any venue. If you have lost any item whilst at the venue please ask a member of staff who will direct you to the lost property storage.
Parking – Parents/Carers must observe any parking regulations that are in place at the venue and are asked to consider the safety of other users of the venues facilities.
